Reunions Show Support

Each year, Alumni Weekend and Reunions bring Marksmen of all ages together to reconnect with their classmates and the School. This year, from the Class of 1963 to 2013, alumni with graduation years ending in 3 and 8 gathered with their classes on Saturday evening for special celebrations to commemorate the time they spent at St. Mark’s.

As part of their celebrations, alumni in reunions also recognized the collective impact of a Class Gift to support current Marksmen and faculty by contributing to the St. Mark’s Fund. Reunion volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the year to challenge themselves and their classmates to make a contribution that honors the impact St. Mark’s has had in their own life.

Collectively, the 11 reunion classes raised nearly $600,000 for the 2017-2018 St. Mark’s Fund, which totaled more than $4 million for the second consecutive year. Alumni giving to the Fund totaled $2 million from 56 percent of alumni, exceeding 50 percent participation for the tenth consecutive year. Notably, all 15 young alumni classes reached 60 percent participation or higher for the third consecutive year.

This historic year concluded with new Reunion Records for giving and participation. The Class of 1973, led by Co-Chairs George Bayoud ’73, Mark Early ’73, Jack Goetz ’73, and Tom Walker ’73, set a 45th Reunion giving record by raising more than $60,000. Always a trend-setting class, the Class of 2003 became the youngest class in School history to raise $100,000, setting a new 15th Reunion record for both giving and participation, with 73 percent class participation. Co-Chairs Francis Donald ’03, Ed Wesneski ’03, Taylor Jenkins ’03, and the Reunion Committee did a tremendous job bringing the class together.

The Class of 1993 earned the Papert Bowl, named in honor of Samuel W. Papert, Jr. ’37, by securing nearly 70 percent class participation, the highest percentage in the St. Mark’s Fund by Alumni Weekend. Reunion Co-Chairs Jake Buckner ’93 and Erec Winandy ’93 worked tirelessly to engage classmates and communicate the impact the St. Mark’s Fund has on providing resources to current Marksmen and faculty. The Class of 1998 celebrated their 20th Reunion and reached 70% participation, a 22 percent increase over last year’s participation, earning the Alumni Cup for their efforts. Co-Chairs Kenneth George ’98, Ryan Kirkham ’98, and Miles Lamont ’98 led the way.

On Saturday night of Alumni Weekend, reunion classes gathered at homes across Dallas and celebrated one another’s accomplishments and journeys, as well as their collective success in continuing the pave the way for future generations of Marksmen.
